How To Measure

We'll go over the measurements needed for most garments plus two methods of taking the Armhole Depth measurement needed for a Gardening Dress. We ask for quite a few, but in the video below, you'll see the whole process can be accomplished in about 5 minutes.

Some tips: Wear your undergarment that gives you the most lift! That way it will still comfortably fit even on your bustiest days. 😉 Our calculations are based in inches, so that’s the most helpful. Also, make your biggest muscle on your dominant arm for the bicep measurement. Off the rack clothing never suitably fits me here and it is my dream that Cabbage Cottage clothing never get stuck on anyone’s glorious biceps.

Most of our measurements can be explained by this  diagram, found on our garment listings. These measurements can all be taken by yourself with the aid of a mirror or front facing camera to ensure that the measuring tape is even when around your bust and waist. A friend or partner could also help you with this!

Armhole Depth Measurement

The extra measurement is an Armhole Depth measurement. You can take it either on your shoulder, or on any woven shirt you like the fit of, when laid flat.

To take it on your body, you lay your tape measure at the top center of your shoulder and measure down the front of your body to where your armpit ends. You don’t measure beneath the armpit at all, just the straight line as you could see in a mirror.

To take the measurement from your favorite shirt, lay it out flat and measure the depth from the top of the shoulder in a straight line to where the armpit stops.
